Acne affects not only teenagers but adults as well. The fact is that there are indeed adults who are not blessed with ‘quality’ skin that can resist many of the negative effects of contaminants which inevitably invade the pores of the skin and its outer layer. Fortunately, medical researchers, pharmaceutical manufacturers, alternative practitioners and all those involved in the process, have never wavered in their efforts to come up with ideas, methods like the acne diet, medicines or therapies such as the acne facial which can effectively deal with the acne problem. It can be argued that as a civilization, we have done very well. What is noteworthy is that these efforts to deal with the acne problem are ongoing and have not been halted. As a result, one of the latest weapons in the fight against acne has arrived. This weapon of which I speak is none other than the acne gel.

Applying an acne gel is for the vast majority of people, more preferable, than taking pills which may have unwanted side effects. Indeed, research suggests that the acne gel may be effective against acne, keeping the skin clear without a need to combine its usage with acne medication. The acne gel has the potential to revolutionize the field of dermatology. Acne gels are effective due to the presence of retinoids. Retinoids are a class of chemicals, primarily found in vitamin A. These chemicals are extracted and used in the manufacturing of the acne gel. It should be noted that not only acne gel contains retinoids. Retinoids are also found in some acne medications. Since the acne gel is a topical application it is obviously perceived to be safer and less intrusive than a pill which must be taken internally.

For best results, it is advisable that one uses acne gel everyday even after the acne has disappeared. Daily use insures that the acne has a hard time returning. As alluded to earlier, the acne gel can combat the acne menace on its own without having to be used with another remedy. This is not the case when the acne condition is a severe one. In severe cases, the acne gel may have to be used along with acne medication. This reality should not be of surprise to the vigilant. The fact is that acne is best dealt with from several angles and it is only in mild cases that one may be able to apply just one method to get rid of the acne.

The latest acne gel to hit the market is known as Aczone Gel 5%. This latest addition to the acne gel market was designed by QLT Inc. and is indeed manufactured by QLT Inc. This new acne gel targets the facial skin cells that have become contaminated by debris, dirt and bacteria. It also deals with pores that have become blocked with oil, removing dead skin cells in the process. It should be noted that this product has been approved by the F.D.A, a factor that should always be considered when buying any drug or substance in the health market. Its active ingredient is called ‘dapsone’ and it should be noted that so far reports are that women have reaped greater success with the product than men.

On the downside, some side effects have been reported. Possible side effects include peeling of the skin, redness and increased oil build-up. However, such side effects are not extreme and have been reported with reference to the use of other brands of acne gel. This writer has no doubt that in time, with more research and experimenting, the acne gel will become even more effective in the war against acne.
