Cellulite Lotions: Can They Stand alone?

To put it bluntly, an anatomy contoured by cellulite can be a disgusting sight to behold. Those subcutaneous lumps of fat that push against the connective tissue below the skin prove to be an anatomical menace to those who have them. It should be noted that one does not necessarily have to be obese in order for the body to have cellulite. It needs to be considered that cellulite is mainly caused by poor circulation so based on this reality, it is perfectly possible for a slim person to get cellulite and indeed this does happen.

The market is full of several possibilities that an individual can avail himself or herself of in order to tackle the scourge of cellulite. There is diet and exercise, laser treatments and massage therapy to name a few. There is, however, a cheap and effective remedy in the form of the cellulite lotion.

Cellulite lotions have grown to become very popular as a cheap and effective way of reducing cellulite on the body. What needs to be stressed is that cellulite lotions do not deal with the cause or causes of the cellulite. These lotions are obviously topical in nature and basically provide only surface relief from the cellulite problem. In other words cellulite lotions provide cosmetic assistance by smoothing out the skin.

This is how it works. The cellulite lotion is rubbed on the areas of the skin that are plagued by the cellulite. The lotion softens, soothes and relaxes the skin, relieving it of the wrinkles and dimples. Therefore, the skin appears to be smoother and more toned. The cellulite lotion has nothing to do with tackling the cause of the cellulite formation although the relaxing and smoothening effect on the skin eventually does help to reduce some of the cellulite.

The cellulite lotion will therefore not provide a permanent solution. One should not buy a tube of cellulite lotion and suddenly abandon one’s exercise regime. Therefore, whatever brand of cellulite lotion chosen, must be applied on a regular basis and with consistency. Indeed, the market in recent years has been inundated with several brands and types of cellulite lotion. Despite the minor differences, all these cellulite lotions aim to do the same thing and that is to reduce the cellulite on your body.

This writer believes it is only fitting that mention be made of some of these minor differences. Some of the cellulite lotions you see on the store shelf or pharmacy shelf contain a chemical called aminophylline. Anytime you come across a cellulite lotion containing this chemical, you know that the said lotion is focusing on reducing the dimpling effect cellulite causes on the skin surface.

Cellulite lotions containing aminophylline are designed in such a way that they penetrate through the epidermis, into the cell membranes, en route to the bloodstream as a result of changing the fatty cells in your body into fatty acids. Other cellulite lotions contain alpha hydroxy acids and retinols. Anytime you observe that a given cellulite lotion contains these two substances, it is fair for you to conclude that such a lotion is good for rejuvenating, revitalising and improving general skin quality. The fact is that such cellulite lotions not only help to get rid of cellulite but they also remove dead skin cells that mostly comprise the epidermis or the outer most layer of the skin. It should be noted that if you are a person who is outside in the sunlight during the day then it is better to apply retinol based cellulite lotions at night since the sunlight can reduce the effectiveness of such lotions.

In retrospect, cellulite lotions are indeed effective but they only treat the symptom and not the cause. As a result, it may be best to combine the usage of these lotions with other remedies to maximise their effectiveness.

The choice is always yours to make.
