Laser Pigmentation
71Dark patches on the skin are an embarrassment for all people, irrespective about the reasons why they were caused. The patches could be a result of birthmarks, freckles or even due to aging of the individual. Left visible to the naked eye, they can be an eye sore that is best removed. However these marks are not easy to be eliminated form the body unless the individual chooses to use laser pigmentation as a method. Talk about the subject and a number of questions will have to be answered. Let us look at the questions, which will come up during a discussion.
How can you get in depth information about laser pigmentation? Perhaps the best person to help you with this knowledge will be a dermatologist. These people are qualified in matters relating to skin care and will be able to offer you expert advice. Do not even bother to read about the subject and consider yourselves as an informed person. You will get information that is usually general but not specific to the problems you face. It is only your dermatologist who will be able to explain things in a better way for you.
What will laser pigmentation cost? This will be question most patients will be worried about. Laser pigmentation is not cheap and comes at a heavy cost. This is a natural phenomenon as it relates to changing the looks of a person by removing marks, which had existed for a long time. The decision about whether to go for the treatment or not depends upon the individual affected. If they are able to live with the marks, they do not even have to visit a dermatologist. If not, a visit is highly recommended to understand what the treatment will cost you.
How does laser pigmentation remove the dark patches? Laser pigmentation is perhaps the most advanced technology in use to remove dark patches from the skin. The energy of light is used by the laser to remove any dark patches on the skin. The light produced by the laser is absorbed by the darker patches on the skin and is then destroyed, either removing or lightening the skin.
Is the process painful? Like all other treatments, laser pigmentation does leave some side effects, which can be close to sunburn. The skin will turn reddish for a little period of time. However any discomfort experienced will disappear in a couple of days leaving you with better looking skin. The natural color and texture of the skin returns as the redness disappears from the skin.
How many sessions will be required? In milder cases laser pigmentation clears any dark patches within two or three sessions. However there are cases related to tattoos where the ink is imbedded deep into the skin. Such cases will take longer sessions, which may at times last as long as six months.
Dos and don’ts after a session. In all cases the dermatologist will apply an antibiotic over the treated area. You will then be advised to keep the area clean and repeat the application of the ointment after some hours. You will also be told to not scrub the area treated, when taking a shower the next day.
In some cases, dark patches removed using laser pigmentation as a method of treatment may return after some time. This is usually the case with birthmarks that have a tendency to make reappearance. However it must also be understood that the process can be repeated on the same area all over again. This will be at an added cost and will not be offered free of charge.
