Nursery Bedding
64If you are choosing nursery bedding, either for your own baby or as a gift for somebody else, you will find that there is a wide selection of bedding items available. Not only are there a lot of different types of items, such as sheets, blankets, pillows, bumper pads, quilts and comforters, but they come in such a wide array of colors, fabrics, and patterns. If you are choosing nursery bedding set for your own baby or baby-to-be, you might already have a good idea of what the theme of the nursery is going to be, as well as the color scheme of the room. You might also already know if the baby is a boy or a girl. In fact, even if you are purchasing nursery bedding as a gift for somebody else, you might also know these types of facts. This can be handy information to have, since of course a baby girl nursery bedding set can look quite different from a nursery bedding set designed for a baby boy.
Of course, this is not always the case. Sometimes a nursery bedding set is equally appropriate for a boy or a girl. One example of this type of situation are nursery bedding sets which are designed with a cartoon or character motif, such as a Winnie the Pooh nursery bedding set. All little babies seem to love Winnie the Pooh, so a Pooh nursery bedding set would be a welcome addition to the nursery decor for either a girl or a boy. There are many other cartoon characters as well that are equally appropriate for girls and boys.
Some parents prefer not to have their nursery decorated in a specific "baby boy" or "baby girl" style, and instead prefer a more gender-neutral approach to the nursery. Whether you are choosing pink or blue, or a more neutral shade, many people believe that lighter colors are best for the majority of a baby's room. Not only do light shades seem to be more soothing and restful, but they also make a good backdrop for splashes of more vivid color that can give the room more energy when desired. There are those who actually prefer an overall application of vivid and bright colors when decorating a baby's nursery, but because it is a bedroom, usually the more soothing shades win out.
When you are selecting a nursery bedding set, you will also want to take quality and cost into consideration. Of course, the highest quality sets are generally the most expensive, so if your nursery-decorating budget is tight, you might have to settle for a slightly lower quality bedding set. Fortunately, small babies often grow out of their crib before they could possibly wear the sheets out, but their curious little hands can cause some detriment to some of the other bedding items, such as the bumper pads and pillows. As a rule, choose the best quality nursery bedding that you can comfortably afford, not only so that it is more durable, but also because the higher thread count fabrics that the higher quality nursery bedding sets are made from will be softer and more comfortable for the baby to sleep on.
When you are purchasing nursery bedding items, you will also want to take any special allergies or comfort issues into account. High quality cotton is generally a good choice that does not cause problems for most babies, but you want to avoid any types of bedding items that might contain chemicals or additives of any type that might be irritating to the baby's skin. For example, sometimes fabrics are initially treated with a coating of formaldehyde or other types of chemicals. This is just one more reason why nursery-bedding sets should be washed thoroughly with mild laundry soap before using them.
You also want to consider safety concerns when purchasing nursery bedding sets. The fitted sheets should fit tight so that the baby is not tangled in them while sleeping. Do not purchase any bedding items that are made from any fabrics that are exceptionally flammable. While this is generally not a problem with nursery bedding purchased from a reputable manufacturer, you want to take extra care with any sort of homemade bedding items, in case they are not made from bedding-appropriate fabrics.
