Car insurance is a must for any person driving a car. These policies are usually offered for a period of one year in the name of the person owning the car. These people also have the option of adding additional drivers on the policy they own. Additional drivers added on the policy can be from the family or even friends if the owner of the car so desires. However if the owner wants to lend the car to a friend or a relative for a short period of time, they must ensure that any borrower of the car has a short term car insurance policy.

By ensuring that the borrower of the car has a short term car insurance policy the owner of the car ensures that their annual policy will in no way be affected if the borrower of the car gets into any accidents or causes damages to property. Any claim arising out of the accident will then be the responsibility of the insurer, which issued the short term car insurance. The owners of the car will not have to face any costs towards the damages caused nor will they be called upon to make payments of any deductibles to the insurance company.

Short term car insurance is not just for people who want to borrow cars from others. It can be useful for you as well if you want to buy a car and drive it back to your place. Newly purchased cars will not come with an insurance policy. However you will be able to purchase short term car insurance at the point of sale of the car from insurance brokers stationed at the showroom before driving the car back home. You can then look to get an annual policy to cover for the car.

Buying short term car insurance was thought off as impossible a few years ago. However that is not the case now. Insurance companies have understood that there are people out there looking for short term car insurance for a variety of reasons. These people need the insurance to keep them safe from any accidents, which may happen. They are willing to pay the premiums required and be protected from such incidents. Taking consideration of these aspects insurance companies have begun offering short term car insurance policies for terms of 1 day to 28 days. In certain cases they have also offered policies for terms that went up to 11 months.

Most insurance companies have websites where people looking for short term car insurance policies can make applications. They will be asked to fill out a short application and also pay the fees required for the premium along with their application. The insurance policy will be issued immediately for the convenience of the applicant and the same can be printed by the applicant from the comfort of their home or office.

If applicants of short term car insurance policies are not comfortable making an online application, they can always visit an insurance broker located near their place of residence or close by. They will still need to make an application and pay the premium before they get the policy in their possession.

While the option of visiting a broker’s office is always available people are advised to conduct a research online as they will be able to access the websites of all insurers selling short term car insurance. A broker may only be representing a single company and therefore may not be able to offer you a competitive price on the policy. Visiting the company’s websites will give you access to a large pool of information, helping you compare rates before purchasing short term car insurance.

This article would be a lot more helpful if it mentionned/recommended insurance companies that actually do provide short term life insurance!

I have been on countless websites and called a bunch of them (progressive, Geico, AAA) and none of them seem to offer any such product....
