It is very common today to see many people get drunk because of too much alcohol intake. What they do not know is the bad effects of drinking too much alcohol. Well, for them to know about these facts, we will about to list all facts according to alcoholism.

First and foremost, alcoholism is a kind of drug addiction. With the continuous use of the alcohol, they tend to have a dependency in both physical and psychological side. That is why it is very important to control yourself now while it is still early for you.

Do you know that alcoholism is also considered a disease? Yes, you heard it right, it is a disease. In fact, it is characterized by four elements namely: craving, loss of control, physical dependence, and tolerance.

Craving is an element where the person is actually feeling he has a strong need or an obligation to drink. Loss of control is the frequent inability to stop drinking once he or she has begun. The other element is the physical dependence which is the occurrence of withdrawal symptoms like sweating, shaking, and even anxiety, when an alcohol is stopped after a heavy period of drinking. Last element is the tolerance where a person needs more amount of alcohol in order to get high.

Despite what the alcoholics say, alcohols act as depressant to one's central nervous system. This means that this can lead to a decrease of activity, anxiety, tensions and even self consciousness. In other words, alcohol will make you unproductive during the day of being drunk and even the next day.

Another fact about alcoholism is that it does not only affect your central nervous system but will affect even the other body systems as well.  Gastrointestinal tract irritation could be a result of too much alcohol intake with complications to stomach linings resulting to vomiting or even bleeding.

Also, alcoholism starts from minimal intake until to a point where one is getting unsatisfied of drinking less.

With alcohols, you can't absorb vitamins properly which could actually lead you to nutritional deficiencies, and soon become weak and vulnerable to sickness. With continuous use of alcohol, this could actually result to liver diseases like cirrhosis. Also, one serious fact about alcoholism is it may affect the heart muscles which could result to heart failure.  Sexual dysfunction could also be some of the effects of continuous intake of alcohol. Men would have problems in their erections and women could have their monthly periods stopped.

Fact of alcoholism is that it is a widespread disease. According to surveys, more than half of the adults have a family history of alcoholism or drinking problems, and more than nine million of children live with parents who are dependent on alcohol. Alcoholism is also a family disease, because it affects all the family members not just the alcoholic. Another thing, alcoholism is a community disease because people who are alcoholics’ loss their productivity in their work, getting more accidents involved resulting to emergency health care.

Alcoholism is one of the major causes of accidents mostly in vehicles. It is also a contributing factor to most cases about suicide. Alcoholism is also a leading cause to birth defects of babies. Another fact about alcoholism, it has no cure but it is possible to manage the disease and live a productive life.

One final fact about alcoholism would be in terms of stopping it. Undergoing withdrawal or detoxification can be very dangerous especially to one that has been used of drinking alcohol. The patient would experience delirium, convulsions, delusions, or even loss of appetite and insomnia.
